Speedway International Racing Bar and Bistro in Newport Beach

Fifty-eight Impalas and 130 folks exploded upon The Speedway International Racing Bar and Bistro in Newport Beach for our last Restaurant Cruise of 1997. A great time of socializing, eating, and checking out everyone's mods was the order of the day. Both the 58 Impalas and the 130 people beat all previous Restaurant Cruise attendance records. The only Impala events larger than our cruises (thus far) are the National Impala meets and our own 1997 national Super Chevy Show record of 76 Impalas. We appear to have a hit on our hands with the Sunday cruises!
If you missed the November cruise, here is what you missed in the words of one of our cruisers: “I'm absolutely overwhelmed. What a great day it was for the members of SoCalSS. The weather was in the high 70's, the food was good, and the company was just outstanding. I hadn't been to an event for three months and to my surprise what an event this was! Little did we know that this would be the last cruise for six months! The El Nino rains (and snow!) decended on Southern California with a vengence, starting in December and lasting though mid-May. Since many of our members don't drive their cars in the rain, and since a popular part of every cruise is admiring the other beautiful Impalas on the parking lot, we only have cruises when it isn't raining. Luckily, the weather for this cruise was a Chamber-of-Commerce perfect 76 degrees and sunny at the beach!
Eventually everyone moved inside to eat. There are always lots of new faces at our cruises. Even though we have over 50 cars for each cruise, there are always a surprising number of people there for the first time.
